On February 17, 2025, Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar arrived at Delhi’s Palam airport for a two-day state visit to India and was greeted with open arms.
In a rare show of hospitality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed the Amir and called him a “brother” in a social media post, wishing the two men a successful meeting the next day.
The Amir’s discussions with PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu during this visit will center on strengthening bilateral ties in a number of areas, including trade, investment, energy, technology, and cross-cultural interactions.
Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) exchange is planned. The importance of this visit for both countries is demonstrated by the high-level delegation that the Amir is traveling with, which includes ministers and business executives.
Rashtrapati Bhawan’s forecourt will host the Amir’s ceremonial welcome on February 18. Detailed discussions will then take place at Hyderabad House.
The historically close ties between India and Qatar are anticipated to be further strengthened by the Amir’s visit, which is his second state visit to India since March 2015.
