According to EAM Jaishankar, the Indian diaspora has irrevocably impacted global society.

EAM S. Jaishankar recently highlighted at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar the important influence of the Indian diaspora on world society. According to him, the diaspora’s talent, inventiveness, and tenacity have made a lasting impression in a variety of fields. Jaishankar pointed out that Indian-origin people’s contributions go beyond economic considerations, highlighting their roles in global diplomacy, innovation, and culture.

Remittances from the Indian diaspora have been significant; in 2024 alone, $129.1 billion was sent to India, accounting for 14.3% of all remittances worldwide. Families in India depend heavily on this financial assistance, which also makes a substantial contribution to the national economy.

Through festivals, food, and customs, diaspora members spread Indian culture throughout the world, strengthening India’s soft power. This cultural integration is demonstrated by initiatives like the US states’ recognition of Diwali as a holiday.

Jaishankar noted that a large number of people of Indian descent occupy important roles in the business and global governance sectors, which helps to positively influence international opinion of India. Their leadership and advocacy are essential to enhancing India’s standing internationally.

The minister emphasized how tourism can spur inclusive growth and job creation, and he urged diaspora members to actively promote India as a travel destination. He emphasized how crucial trade, technology, and tourism are as the cornerstones of economic growth.

Jaishankar’s comments demonstrate an understanding of the Indian diaspora as a crucial economic force as well as a network of cultural and diplomatic ties that raise India’s profile internationally.
