At the Delhi WMCC Meeting, China and India agree to take steps to further ease the border situation:

The 32nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) took place in New Delhi on December 5, 2024. An important step toward resolving border tensions that have remained since the 2020 conflicts was this meeting.

Both countries were pleased with the disengagement agreement’s advancement, which addressed problems arising from the 2020 conflicts. This October 21 agreement made it easier to remove troops and demolish buildings along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in sensitive areas like Demchok and Depsang.

As agreed upon during their meeting in Kazan by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the delegations prepared for an impending meeting of Special Representatives on border concerns.

A review of the current border situation was part of the talks, with a focus on lessons learnt from the past to avoid future escalation. Both sides emphasized how crucial it is to keep up consistent military and diplomatic communications in order to maintain peace and stability.

India and China reaffirmed their commitment to upholding current bilateral accords and managing the border effectively while preserving peace along the LAC.

Chinese Director General of Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Hong Liang and Indian Joint Secretary for East Asia Gourangalal Das led the meeting. Hong also spoke with the foreign secretary of India about more general bilateral ties.
