In Poonch, an army vehicle plunges into a 300-foot-deep gorge, killing five soldiers.

In Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, on December 24, 2024, an Indian Army truck slipped off the road and crashed down a 300-foot deep chasm, sadly killing five troops and injuring five more. Around 5:20 PM, the incident happened in the Gharoa region when the vehicle was on operational duties along the Line of Control (LoC) and was a member of a convoy leaving for Banoi.

A 2.5-ton truck belonging to the 11 Maratha Light Infantry was alleged to have lost control at a road bend and plunged into the ravine. Military officials verified the initial allegations that there was no terrorist participation in the tragedy, pointing out that a neighboring garrison was only roughly 130 meters from the scene.

Teams quickly began rescue efforts, retrieving the deceased and transferring the injured to a Poonch field hospital. One soldier is reportedly in critical condition among the wounded. In addition to expressing their sincere sorrow for the loss of their fellow soldiers, the Indian Army’s Northern Command said that inquiries into the accident’s cause are still on.
