The RCWS-Sharur, a state-of-the-art remote-controlled weapon station intended for naval deployment, was unveiled by India. Constructed in Bangalore by Bharat Electronics Limited, it enhances the Indian Navy’s combat preparedness by integrating missiles, tremendous firepower, and sophisticated optics.
Designed to be installed on Indian warships, the RCWS-Sharur is a remote-controlled weapon station. It is a major advancement in domestic naval technology, created by Bangalore-based Bharat Electronics Limited. In maritime contexts, the system is intended to offer increased firepower, adaptability, and defense against various threats.
Depending on the needs of the mission, the RCWS-Sharur’s main weapon, a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, can be replaced with a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
The system can adjust to both anti-material and anti-personnel tasks thanks to this versatility. The platform has powerful anti-armor capabilities thanks to two Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (MPATGM) installed on either side of the station.
An infrared thermal imager, a laser rangefinder, and a day-night camera are all part of the RCWS-Sharur’s sophisticated electro-optical suite. In all weather conditions, day or night, these sensors guarantee precise target acquisition and engagement. Additionally, the system has automatic target tracking, which allows it to precisely lock onto and follow moving threats.
The RCWS-Sharur’s 360-degree turning capabilities, which enables it to engage targets from any direction, is one of its main advantages. From the ship’s control room, operators can remotely operate the system, guaranteeing safety and lowering vulnerability to hostile fire. The system’s 2,000-meter effective range allows it to combat both aircraft and maritime threats.
Its capacity to combat unmanned aerial vehicles will be improved by future improvements that incorporate the Naval Anti-Drone System (NADS).
