The first silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing plant in India is scheduled to be established by RIR Power Electronics Limited in Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Park, Infovalley, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Odisha cabinet authorized this project, which will cost ₹618.60 crore in total and is anticipated to generate about 750 jobs.
Project Phases: Over the course of the following three years, implementation will take place in two stages.
A tailored incentive package for RIR has been approved by the Odisha government, raising the subsidy from 30% to 50%, totaling ₹110 crore. Despite competition from other states, the decision was reached to keep the project in Odisha. The incentives are a component of the state’s semiconductor policy, which aims to promote industrial growth and strengthen local manufacturing skills.
SiC-based devices, which are essential for sectors including electric cars, renewable energy, railroads, and defense, will be the main emphasis of this facility. By using cutting-edge techniques like epitaxial layer deposition and packaging, it is anticipated to greatly improve India’s local manufacturing capabilities. As the only producer of silicon-based power devices in India, RIR Power Electronics strives to
By encouraging local supply chain development and skill-building possibilities, this project establishes Odisha as a major player in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
