US Vice President JD Vance and his family are welcomed by PM Modi at his official residence.

On April 21, 2025, US Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance, and their three kids were cordially received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official home at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. The visit is the start of a four-day journey to deepen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the United States and India.

The children were dressed in traditional Indian garb, with Mirabel wearing an Anarkali-style gown with an embroidered jacket and Ewan and Vivek wearing kurta-pyjamas, when the Vance family visited the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in New Delhi earlier in the day. On social media, Vance thanked the gracious hosts and commended the temple’s elaborate architecture, adding that his kids especially relished the experience.

The family also went to the Central Cottage Industries Emporium at Janpath after the temple tour. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave Vance a formal welcoming upon his arrival at the Palam Air Force Station in Delhi.

Modi and Vance discussed developments in a number of sectors of cooperation, such as energy, defense, and strategic technologies, during their bilateral meeting at the Prime Minister’s home. They emphasized the wellbeing of the people of both countries and applauded the important progress made in talks for a bilateral trade agreement between the US and India that would benefit both parties.

Following the discussions, PM Modi threw a dinner for the Vance family and top US officials. Vance is expected to visit Jaipur’s Amber Fort and give a speech about US-India relations during the trip, which also includes planned stops in Agra.

The visit will cover all important areas of cooperation, the Ministry of External Affairs emphasized, and it is anticipated to further solidify bilateral ties. A possible bilateral trade pact to strengthen economic ties between the two nations is also being discussed.

The visit comes after Vance recently traveled to Italy, where he met with Pope Francis and other Vatican officials in addition to holding bilateral sessions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In light of the continuous difficulties in international trade and security, this visit to India is regarded as a crucial step in strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and India.
