In India’s quest for defense manufacturing independence, the announcement of a joint venture between Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and France’s Safran Electronics & Defence (SED) to develop the HAMMER precision-guided air-to-ground weapon system domestically marks a significant turning point.

The Indian Air Force has successfully implemented the Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) system, which is renowned for its combat-proven accuracy and modular design. It is now poised to become a key component of the country’s precision strike capacity.

Through the transfer of vital technology and manufacturing skills into the domestic industrial ecosystem, this cooperation fortifies the basis of the “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” defense efforts.
