Significant security concerns have been raised by recent events involving Bangladesh’s deployment of Bayraktar-TB2 drones, manufactured in Turkey, along its border with India. According to experts, India has the capacity to detect and destroy these drones if they violate Indian airspace.
According to reports, Bangladesh has purchased a number of Bayraktar-TB2 drones and is using them for reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence operations along its Indian border. This action comes after Pakistan made a comparable purchase and deliberately placed these drones throughout the area.
The deployment takes place at a time when India-Bangladesh relations are deteriorating, especially in light of recent political developments in Bangladesh. According to some, this change can be a sign of Bangladesh’s increasing distance from India and alignment with China and Pakistan.
Indian security agencies, notably the Indian Air Force (IAF), have increased monitoring in reaction to drone sightings close to the international border. Several Bayraktar-TB2 UAVs have reportedly been spotted flying near Indian territory, which has prompted a thorough monitoring plan.
India has strong systems in place to track and stop any unwanted aerial incursions, according to a defense official. No aircraft is allowed to operate within 10 kilometers of the border during peacetime, according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP). Violators risk prompt action, which may include deploying fighter jets to visually detect the drones and, if required, shoot them down.
The Bayraktar-TB2 has sophisticated observation capabilities and precision-guided bombs for tactical missions. Its capacity for thermal imaging and high-definition video capturing increases its usefulness for reconnaissance operations. Indian officials, however, maintain that their air defense systems are capable of dealing with such threats should they infiltrate Indian airspace.
Although experts confirm that India’s military capabilities allow it to easily monitor and eliminate these threats if they cross its airspace, the deployment of Bangladeshi Bayraktar-TB2 drones constitutes a possible threat to India’s border security.
