₹3,481.27 crore has been set aside expressly for security-related expenses and the Special Infrastructure Scheme, which aims to counter Left Wing Extremism (LWE), especially Naxalism, in the Union Budget for 2025–2026 that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented. Compared to the ₹2,463.62 crore allotted for comparable uses the year before, this is a substantial increase.
With Home Minister Amit Shah highlighting a target to abolish naxalism by March 2026, the budget demonstrates the government’s commitment to stepping up efforts against this problem. This comes after a sharp rise in violence against security personnel; by the end of January 2025, 40 Naxalites were reportedly slain in Chhattisgarh alone, according to reports.
Infrastructure Development: In areas plagued by the Naxals, the money will help build infrastructure and security camps. There have been 290 security force camps established since 2019, and 88 more are planned for 2025.
The Government’s Approach: The funding is in line with the government’s overarching plan to strengthen internal security and stabilize LWE regions by enhancing security forces’ operational capabilities and infrastructure.
The Indian government’s continuous fight against the Maoist insurgency and its dedication to promoting peace and stability in impacted areas are highlighted by this financial focus.
