With the launch of a first-of-its-kind simulated Liquid Oxygen (LOX) storage module for the domestic Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system, India’s efforts to bolster the endurance and stealth of its submarine fleet have advanced significantly, according to INOXCVA on its Instagram account.
The module, which is intended to enhance the Indian Navy’s desire for prolonged underwater operations without surfacing, was officially dispatched on Thursday by INOX India Ltd (INOXCVA), marking the milestone.
As part of the AIP program overseen by the Naval Material Research Laboratory (NMRL), a crucial Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) laboratory situated in Ambernath, Maharashtra, the module, which was created at INOXCVA’s Kalol facility in the Panchmahal district, will go through Factory Acceptance Tests.
The cryogenic LOX storage tank is designed to meet the strict safety, purity, and dependability requirements needed for defense applications by storing oxygen in liquid form at very low temperatures. Its function is essential in allowing submarines to stay underwater for long periods of time, improving stealth and survivability.
