Skyroot successfully test fires the Vikram-1 rocket’s retro motors, bringing them one step closer to orbit.

Skyroot Aerospace has successfully completed a static fire test of the retro motors for its Vikram-1 rocket, marking a significant step forward in the company’s launch vehicle development. This test, which took place on January 7, 2025, is critical for assuring the seamless separation of rocket stages during flight, which is an important part of conducting successful orbital flights.

The retro motors are intended to slow the rocket during stage separation, increasing the overall dependability of the launch process. This test is part of Skyroot’s larger preparations for the planned inaugural orbital launch of Vikram-1, which is expected to be a watershed moment in India’s commercial space sector.

Pawan Chandana, Skyroot’s Co-Founder and CEO, emphasised the significance of this milestone, adding that it gets the company closer to its aim of making space more accessible through creative technology. The Vikram-1 spacecraft seeks to demonstrate India’s expanding space technology and exploration capabilities, following the successful suborbital launch of Vikram-S in late 2022.
