Kalyani Strategic Systems MArG 155mm/45 Cal Mounted Gun System Debuts At IDEX in Abu Dhabi

On February 17, 2025, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited revealed the MArG 155mm/45 Cal Mounted Artillery Gun System at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi. This modern artillery system, based on a 4×4 all-terrain chassis, is capable of firing conventional ammunition over distances of up to 36 km.

The International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025 will include over 50 Indian firms, including TATA Advanced Systems, Bharat Electronics Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited, DRDO, and BrahMos Aerospace.

The IDEX and Naval defence Exhibition (NAVDEX) bring together experts and top global defence firms to display the most recent technology and solutions for promoting world peace and security. IDEX 2025 has experienced an increase in participating firms, with 1,565 from 65 countries, a 16% increase over the previous edition. The overall display area has also grown by 10% to 181,501 square meters, with 731 new firms participating, representing an 82% increase.

The MArG 45 combines firepower, range, and mobility into a single platform, demonstrating the creativity of Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd., a subsidiary of Bharat Forge. Kalyani asserted that it demonstrates their capabilities to manufacture modern artillery systems that are “Designed and Made in India”.

Built for outstanding mobility, its custom chassis, developed in-house, enables optimal agility in a variety of combat scenarios. It can be operational in 1.5 minutes during the day and 2 minutes at night, making it extremely useful in dynamic combat circumstances.

The MArG 45 has an amazing shooting range of more than 36 km when using standard ammo. It can carry 18 bullets aboard and fires quickly, delivering 10 shots in three minutes and 42 rounds in an hour.

The system is compatible with NATO-standard ammunition, which improves its interoperability with other armies. Its architecture enables it to adapt to changing combat conditions, giving it a tactical edge.

The system is designed for rapid setup, with a startup time of 1.5 minutes during the day and 2 minutes at night. Its lightweight design (weighing 23.5 tonnes) enables for excellent movement in a variety of combat scenarios.

It can fire 10 rounds in three minutes and 42 rounds in an hour, providing continuous fire support throughout operations.

The cannon has an elevation range of -2° to +72° and a traverse capacity of 25° left and right, making it adaptable to a variety of tactical situations.

The MArG system is compatible with NATO-standard ammunition, which increases its operational adaptability.

H.E. Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, officiated the inauguration, emphasising India’s commitment to promoting global military technologies. Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge, stated that this mounted gun platform represents a significant leap in defence technology, demonstrating India’s capacity to manufacture complex military equipment domestically.

The introduction occurred at the 17th edition of IDEX and the 8th edition of NAVDEX, which included over 1,565 firms from 65 countries, representing a considerable increase in participation over prior years. This event provides a venue for global military industries to showcase their latest innovations targeted at improving world security.

The introduction of the MArG 155mm/45 Cal Mounted Gun System marks a watershed moment in India’s defence capabilities, underscoring the country’s commitment to self-reliance and cutting-edge military technology.
